Summarize the facts of the case

George Vernon Hansen served as a representative for the secondcongressional district of Idaho throughout 1965 and 1969and again from 1975, right up to his conviction in 1984.

CongressmanHansen was condemned and conviction of violating 18 U.S.C § 1001 by way of presenting false declaration relating to matters within the jurisdiction of a division inside theUnited States of America.

Hansen’s conviction wasbecause ofhis failure to divulge a $50,000 loan from 1978, which he gave to his wife, on his EIGA forms, which was counter-signed by Nelson Bunker Hunt.

Hansen as well omitted $84,475 earningsfromsilver commodities, which was made at some stage in 1979; a loan over $61,000 collected from Nelson Baker Hunt during 1980togetherwith$135,000 in total fora setof loans received from private persons during 1981.

Hansen contested the truth of the case submitted under section 18 U.S.C. § 1001 and moved to dismiss the indictment however, the court rejected this motion. Hansen attempted to appeal however; the court upheld all counts from 1984 conviction.

Hansen also submitted a motion to obtain another trial,similarly,as others, the court denied. Hansen served 1 yearbehind thefederal prison facilityand was mandated to paya complete$40,000 for the four fines deserved.

At a point in his trial attheUnited StatesDistrict Court of Ohio on March 12, 1992, Hansen was convicted for forty-five counts of bank fraudulent activities.

Seven days later, Judge Edward Lodge sentenced Hansen to serve forty-eight months in jail at the same he was still in federal detention. This made the sentencea completelength of three years for Hansen.
