Hello class, my name is Harrison Combs III and I am from Fort Wayne, IN but have livedin North Carolina for the last 15 years. I am an Army veteran but have been a law enforcement officer for the last 10 years. I hold the rank of Sergeant in an agency with over 460 sworn officers and enjoy the challenges of my job.

I also serve as a team leader on our department’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) and as a police sniper. Often when one looks at my credentials, background, training and experience they immediately conclude that I am an “alpha male” type, to which they are wrong.

My colleagues know different as I am the one who likes tothoroughly thinks things through, taking advantage of all available time and information to come up with a just resolution to the conflict which considers of any collateral damage and its effects.

I have been married for nearly 15 years to my wonderful wife Jennifer and have three children Maddison 6, Macie 3 and Harrison “Henry” IV 1. I enjoy playing basketball, home improvement projects and ATV/UTV riding (not necessarily in that order).

I am just starting my Master’s in Criminal Justice and Public Administration degree here at Liberty U. I aim to use theknowledge to prep myself for bigger roles within my agency and to see my role as a law enforcement officer through the eyes of the academics in effort to make stronger connections with public we serve.

I chose Liberty University mainly due to the religious aspect it probes in each class. I have admittedly long struggled with my faith and seeking of answers on religious topics and hope that academia will help me connect my analytical/logical mind to my spiritual in a way that I can understand and make sense of.

Criminal Justice” found in the Reading & Study folder of Module/Week 1. Incorporate a discussion about “Your Role as a Practitioner-Academic” as discussed in the presentation. 

How will your past experiences impact your career? How will you adapt to global and domestic challenges? Include a reflective discussion about the specific “Biblical Themes” identified in the presentation.

When it comes to my passion for being a law enforcement officer perhaps one man sums it up best. In his book, OnCombat: The Psychology and Physiology of Deadly Conflict in War and in Peace, Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, U.S. Army (Ret.) writes of the three groups we have in society: sheep, wolves and the sheepdog.

In a passage from his book Grossman describes that most of society fall into the category of “sheep” who are gentle and productive citizens in our society who do not have a propensity for violence against one another.
