Target Audience: Teens and young adults who are avid users of social media

In recent years, technology has progressed and gone through various changes to satisfy society’s ever changing needs and wants. The rising of social media- and access to it- through new devices is still relatively new.

Today, almost everyone uses at least one social media platform, either for personal or work use. It has basically become mandatory that people are online and have access to these sites.

We are constantly plugged in, talking to people over the internet at all times so that it may be hard to realize how much time we spend online with our devices. Once we step away from our devices, we are thrown back into the real world where we see the faces that match the profile pictures.

We must hold conversations with each other; conversations that are longer than 140 characters. People have become comfortable with talking to each other through a screen, so much that face to face communication has become a struggle and is deemed as awkward.

It’s no secret that as technology progresses, it has caused people to become less social. Social, in a sense that we no longer crave physical human interaction. But if social media is based upon the basis of communicating with people, why has the effect of it been the opposite?

I fear that in the long run, digital communication will always be the first option instead of human interaction. As a society, we must recognize the ways we now interact with people and realize that digital communication is here to enhance our experience of communicating with people, not take over.
