As is evident from the formation of societies, people form cities in order to share and cooperate in order to create for themselves a better life. Often, the first individuals of a city share common thoughts and opinions on how best to conduct themselves and govern the new city.
As anew society forms it can be reasonably assumed that the citizens of it are striving to be just, goodand sustainable and make policies in order to fulfill these requirements. Following is a description of such a society that is a sizeable society composed of men, women and children who are all governed by the same laws and regulations.
Prior to creating a just, good and sustainable society, it is necessary to define what these terms truly mean. The first and foremost definitions is justice.
This is the most important definition within this community as it will determine how the citizens determine what is right and wrong and how to deal with those how commit wrongdoings.
In addition to this, it is often the case that people group together to protect themselves from the dangers around them and without justice they would allow themselves to lose this safety in exchange for lawlessness.
The leaders of a community must put forth their definition of what it is to be just if they have any intention of upholding justice within their society.
In the following hypothetical community, justice will be defined as an accurate punishment, in both meaning and magnitude, for actions that are damaging to a community, either directly or indirectly, in an attempt to discourage and make individuals accountable for certain actions.
Under this definition, a just person must stop harm from coming to his community. In some instances, this will mean the just individual is required to harm another individual if they are to prevent further and more widespread harm from happening within their community.
However, in a case such as this, it would be considered just to cause harm. This example is also in alignment with the following definition of what it means to be good.For something, whether it be an action taken, an individual or event, to be deemed good, it must be in alignment with the wanted outcome.
In light of this and the aforementioned fact thata city is formed so that the best circumstances can be had for all, this definition of good can be interpreted to mean an event that is most beneficial for the community as a whole.
In this case anaction that is harmful to the community but helpful to the individual cannot be deemed good as the purpose of a community is what is best for everyone.
Furthermore, through the combination of this definition and that of justice, it is implied that any action taken that may be harmful to the community cannot be considered good or just
