Why Stuff is Rewarding

As a kid, I always wanted more things. I’d want more toys to replace the old ones, or a new video game to experience something new. I never really understood how money worked when I was younger.

I knew you needed it to buy things, but the true meaning of earning and spending money consciously didn’t kick in until I was older and actually had to start earning money for myself to pay for college.

After entering the work force, and with fall semester of the 2018 school year marking the beginning of my first apartment rental experience, I think it is safe to say that I am moving quickly on my way to becoming a full-fledged adult.

As I look towards the future and what I hope it holds, I plan on having lots of, for lack of a better term, “stuff”, and I believe that having lots of stuff is easily justified by the capitalistic economy that we currently live in.Growing up, my family was never extremely rich.

I didn’t get everything I ever wanted, I wasn’t showered with gratuitous stuff (or at least any more than any other kid), and I believe thatthis has attributed to my current attitude over the purchasing of items. As far back as I can remember, I was required to do chores in order to an allowance from my parents.

Saving the money I earned and putting it towards something that I really wanted was a practice that I have had since I was probably around six or seven years old. I personally believe that my parents raised me well, and since coming to college, a lot of the values that they, or my grandparents, or
