Stimulating Early Childhood Development: What Works? Natasha Rivers ECE101: Introduction to Early Childhood Education Instructor Susan Hoagland October 22, 2018
I conducted an interview with a woman who is the director and owner of a home daycare. Before opening up her own daycare she worked in the childcare field for a little over 11 years.
Her reasoning for getting in the field is because she had a bad experience with one of her children’s level of care and how the child was being educated. She felt that her child was not performing on the level that she should have and subsequently pulled her child out of that daycare.
Once she changed schools they experienced a drastic change in her comprehension and competencies as a whole. She said that that experience had opened her eyes to the realities of early childhood education and how some schools lack the ability to properly educate children.

Since then she has attended school to further her education to put her in a position to open her own facility. Early childhood education or childcare in general requires a certain amount of yearsworking with children as well as a required education level to be present before one can open their own facility.
These stipulations are governed by their respective states. All states require you to have health and safety training as well as to be CPR and First Aid certified. In order to remain licensed caregivers/educators must complete 30 hours of training per year.
It was stated that childcare requires a great deal of patience and providers/educators need to stay abreast on the trends and changes within the field and must be willing to take trainings to stay current on allinformation regarding early childhood education.
Sometimes that patience will serve as a tool when having conversations with parents regarding their children’s progress and deficiencies. On a typical day in the facility the teachers are normally working from start to close of business. It was found that it is easier to run the facility if they base their day on a set schedule.
Just after breakfast all of the children gather around in a circle and sing songs. This activity is designed to fully wake the children up. During the latter part of the day the children are given theopportunity to play free of scheduled activities.
At this time they are at liberty to engage in an activity of their choice. These activities are educational based and stimulate their cognition. One thing that experience has taught her is that not every child is on the same level nor do they learn in the same manner.
She has learned that it is necessary to learn who the children are so that they can take the proper approach to teach the children. She feels that it is an integral part in the children’s advancement. She enjoys seeing the children succeed at reaching their goals, which she feels is the most rewarding part of her job. In an effort to get the families
