ECE 612 Week 1 Mission Statement

Mission Statement. For your Final Project, you will be creating a presentation to use as a recruiting tool to attract the best and brightest educators to your (real or fictional) early childhood development center. As a first step, this week you will craft a mission statement for your center.

Using the information given in Chapter 3 of your text and the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct: Supplement for Early Childhood Adult Educators, write a paper that articulates your personal purpose, vision, and mission statement for a successful early childhood development center. In your response, include the following components:

a. A summary of your responses to of the following questions from your text that helps identify your purpose. This section of your paper will culminate with the completion of the following sentence: “My purpose on earth is to _________.”

·           §Name three traits you had as a child that you still have today. These traits will help you identify your gifts and strengths.

·           §Recall a time in your life when you felt you were doing exactly what you were meant to do. This is what “living on purpose” feels like.

·           §Identify a person who noticed your potential. What did that person see in you? Others often serve as messengers to help us see what we cannot see in ourselves.

·           §Describe a time when you experienced “flow” and did not need to think about what you had to do. You may have felt that everything came naturally to you (Csikszentmihalyi, 1991).

·           §Ask three people you trust and who care about you, “When have you seen me at my happiest? What impact do you believe I can have on the world around me?”

ECE 612 Week 2 Job Description

Job Description. According to the Childcare Law Center’s booklet, “Employing People with Disabilities” (1996) referenced in this week’s readings in your text, essential function is defined as “the tasks and duties that describe the job, but only those that are essential to the job” (as cited in Bruno, 2009).

In preparation for the job fair presentation you will submit for your Final Project in Week Five, create a job description for a teaching position at your early childhood development center. Within your job description, include the following information in a format that simulates an actual ad or job posting:

1.       job title and targeted student population (e.g., lead toddler teacher)

2.       essential functions of the position to include at least five to ten tasks the applicant should be able to

complete

3.       a brief summary of your center’s overall philosophy and environment (think in terms of the mission

statement that you developed in Week One)

In addition to your one-page job description, provide a one- to two-page analysis of your job post that articulates how it meets the criteria established by the Childcare Law Center and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Your paper must be formatted according to APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Include a title page and reference page, and cite at least one source in addition to your course text and theNAEYC Standards for Early Childhood Professional Preparation Programs.

ECE 612 Week 3 Accreditation Standards

Accreditation Standards. Licensing standards are basic, rather than the ultimate standards for the health and safety of students. Keeping that in mind, analyze both the NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and the NACCP’s Components of NAC Accreditation Standards in regard to student health and safety. This information will be helpful in the development of your final presentation. In a two- to three-page paper, provide an analysis of these documents that includes the following components:

1.       A comparison of the two sets of standards. What features do they have in common? How do they differ?

2.       A discussion of the relevance of these standards to the social/emotional and academic development of

children. Why should these practices be in place?

3.       An identification of the most salient components of these standards. Which of these standards, or

combination of standards, should be at the forefront of a center’s practices in order to promote a safe and healthful environment for children? What would their implementation look like within your own ideal workplace?

Your paper must follow proper APA format, include a cover and reference page (in addition to the two- to three- page minimum), and must reference your course text, the NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards, the NACCP’s Components of NAC Accreditation Standards, and at least one additional source
