EDD 547 Week 6 Individual Assignment Culminating Project Managing Your Classroom

Culminating Project: Managing Your Classroom

At the beginning of the school year, you plan to create a packet for parents explaining your classroom management plan. You will also create a job aid reference to help you in managing your classroom and instructional strategies to enforce discipline. Complete Part I, Part II, and Part III below.

Part I: Beginning Of School Year Packet

Create a packet to send parents at the beginning of the school year. Design as many documents as possible for actual use in your classroom.

Include the following in your packet:

A letter introducing yourself and briefly explaining your teaching philosophy

Your classroom management plan, bulleted or numbered, and stated in positive terms, including:

General rules

Turning in assignments and homework

Entering or exiting a room

Group work

Restroom

Computers

Centers

Missing materials

A copy of the rules and procedures for your classroom as your students will see them

An example providing an overview of your time management procedures for your classroom, such as an agenda of a lesson plan or a list of an approximate time spent on certain lessons

A graphic representation of your classroom setup with notes indicating why it is setup that way. Note: You may use the classroom setup created in Workshop Two.

A list of the techniques you might use to hold students accountable

A minimum of three documents you might use to hold students accountable, such as a copy of a student contract

Part II: Job Aid

Complete the following table using the skills you learned in this course. You may use the completed table in your classroom as a job aid or as a reminder.

Provide a short scenario based on each behavior listed in the left column. For instance, next to the behavior “Chewing Gum,” you might write: A 1st-grade student, new to the school this week, is chewing gum, although the rule has been posted since school began. OR: A 10th-grade student is chewing gum again after being reminded yesterday and the day before.

Add an example of positive communication and its possible effect.

Complete each row with the rationale for the possible effect of the positive communication

Part III: Instructional Strategies to Involve Students

Use the table below to complete the following:

List five instructional strategies that you will use to increase student involvement and maintain discipline in your classroom.

Describe how each strategy works.

Incorporate technology in at least three of your strategies.
