Part I: A: Explain how HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules benefit and support the integrity of the healthcare industry, patient and physician:

The Privacy and Security Rules under HIPAA laws were established nationally to keep a certaingeneralized standard across the board of what can and will be acceptable when it comes to theprotection, security expected and given, and integrity of certain health information, as well as aset minimum security standard put in place to ward off against cyber-hackers for any personspersonal or health information.

With maintaining and upholding these policies placed by HIPAA,a patient can and should feel at ease with giving a medical professional their personalinformation with the true belief that it will remain confidential HIPAA protects the patient’srights, because healthcare personnel cannot disclose any of the patient’s information unlessthrough legal obligations, such as a subpoena.

HIPAA allows patients the right to seek medicalattention where they see fit as long as the provider is covered by their insurance. Patients are ableto seek medical help through emergency services without monetary obligations during the timethe services are rendered.

Patients have the right to be treated without any discrimination againstthem or their beliefs. Patients have the right to file a complaint against a medical practice or anappeal.

The Affordable Care Act puts consumers back in charge of their health care. Under thelaw, a new “Patient’s Bill of Rights” gives the American people the stability and flexibility theyneed to make informed choices about their health
