IT333 Unit 3 Assignment

1.Research and compare cellular 3G implementations (CDMA) with 4G – LTE-Advanced, speak to the differences from a technological viewpoint, particularly multiplexing and error correction

3G stands for “third generation” because it is the third type of access technology that has been made commercially available for connecting mobile phones[Tho15]. 3G like 2G uses a process called CDMA or Code Division Multiple Access to multiplex up to64 calls per channel in the 800 MHz band [Rou16].
Today’s IP networks (or the Internet) is not truly robust enough for applications that are sensitive to delay so a solution had to be found until IPv6 can be universally deployed. Standard 3G-324 was created to counteract this. 3G-324 uses several sub protocols and technologies to allow calls and multimedia usage over a wireless connection between two parties.
These standards are Error Resilience Services and Concealment, H.223 Multiplexing/Demultiplexing, H.245 Call Control Channel, 3G-324M Adaption Layers, H.245 Call Control Channel, Voice Channel, and Video Channel[Orr03]. There are several error types happen in the wireless environment where 3G operates.
From bit errors that break high-level data link controller bit stuffing to corrupted framing flags, To help combat this, the mobile group in ITU-T introduced a hierarchical structure into standard H.223 into three levels-0, 1, and 2 that increase better levels of error resilience [Orr03].
Level 0 is the baseline, and does not increase the level of error resilience. Level 1 makes the framing more robust. In level 1 stuffing bits are removed and the length of the flag is increased. This allows the problem of flag emulation in the payload to be not very consequential if the probability is low enough. The drawback is a longer flag runs a greater chance of corruption.
Level 2 adds a multiplexed-packet header with the same framing as level 1. This header is very important because it describes the contents of the multiplex packet. Error resilience is necessary for mobile conversation error detection and concealment on the fly.
These solutions do not reduce errors, but can reduce the effect on the type and quality of damage [Orr03]. Multiplexing also is separated into a hierarchy of three layers. Layer 0 provides multiplexing and quality of service functions appropriate for each media data type.
Multiplexing level 1 uses 16-bit pseudorandom noise (PN) sequence instead of the usual 8-bit flag to improve synchronization over error-prone channels. This modification improves flag detection
