Analysis of Perelman’s Definition of Globalization

Globalization can be defined as “the integration of national economies through trade, investment, capital flow, labor migration and technology” (InvestingAnswers, 2018).

However, Perelman points out the true definition of globalization is much more confusing and complex than that. He brings to light the areas within the current global market that are inefficient or even harmful due to the expansion of this market.

He argues that today, corporations hold the power to globalization and therefore policies are overlooked, and punishment is rarely served (Perelman, 2018). Although I agree with him in some respects, I also recognize the power that social media and consumer interests holds in today’s globalized market.

Word today, travels at lightening speeds, and previously where there was asymmetrical information to the consumers, there are now educated and decision makers behind every purchase.

Perelman’s (2018) first argument of corporate anarchy of globalization is that globalization has lead to a greater divide between the wealthy and the non-wealthy.

He points to China’s division betweenthe poor classes and the rich classes. Those that can access the greater global market, are able to create a large return on their investment.

To do so requires an investment to overcome the barrier to entry, which the poor of China do not have access to. Therefore, the Chinese people who can compete in the
