The CEO and President of The Cordis Building Works company have some real issues ontheir hands concerning the staff working for their company and more specifically, their motivation about the work they do while they’re there.
There are some pretty glaring details that stand out right away that can begin to explain reasons all the staff’s lack of motivation. When the Cordis Building Works, company was founded 35 years ago, the work being done by the company was significantly different then it is in present times.
The description of what kind of company Cordis is describes it as a company that modifies and builds portable offices and homes based on customized plans. Now, in defense of the descriptions, it is stated that the work is only based on customized plans, and at one point it may have been all custom which could have led to those customizations being the basis for what are not prebuild and inspired fittings.
The description also goes on to state that they are proud to have retained most of their original staff; this is key for the root of the problem. An article called “Meaning Lifts Production”part of the Business Source Complete database, provides multiple strategies to keep your employee’s happy and explains how doing so will boost the company’s productivity.
One strategy that stands out as useful for the Cordis Building Works company states “Make workers part of the solution.”. [ CITATION Ade15 \l 1033 ] The article than goes on to apply that logic to a CEO of a company called Carpet Maker Interface named Ray Anderson.
She proclaimed that it was her goal to make the company environmentally friendly by 2020 and entrusted her staff with the task of discovering how. Empowering them with this responsibility gave them a sense of self-worth and boosted their productivity.
When work began for the company, the designs were creative, and one of a kind.Now building parts are produced robotically, but a supervisor and technicians are still required to be around to ensure that work gets done; this detail makes them sound like well-paid button pushers.
Designs are no longer creative, custom, or one of a kind; schematics are simply stored on computers. These modifications are still being done to varying building that may not be the same so sure, tweaking is still required to enable the use of said schematics with all different types of installation parameters.
Furthermore, the company still has their two engineers; one whoworks on high-end mansions, and the other who works on corporate office buildings. The CEO and President (company founders) are also still involved in the company.
They are responsible for customer relations and securing/negotiating deals. The cliental is also not quite the same as what could have been expected in the past, as the Cordis Building Works company no longer takes on low-income housing
