PSY223 PSY 223-1-1 Discussion: Why Study Statistics?- SNHU

Begin by introducing yourself to the class and explaining your background. It is well known that a statistics course is one of the requirements of a psychology major. But why is that? Using information provided in this week’s reading and knowledge that you have gathered in prior courses(MAT 240 or other stats courses you have taken), indicate why the study of statistics is useful to a person who majors in psychology. In addition, discuss a personal experience in which statistics were used. This experience could be related to education, insurance, developmental milestones for a child, etc., and it could entail your use of statistics or someone else’s use of statistics. In response to your peers, state how the uses of statistics they mentioned are helpful in the contexts described. For example, you could discuss why alternative ways of communicating information would not work as well.

Hi, my name is Monica. I am happily married and have been for 6 years. I have 2children a 10-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy. I work with adults that have intellectual disabilities. I have been in this field for almost 7 years, starting out as a Direct Support Staff at the Day Training Center and now I am a Behavioral Specialist Assistant (Person CenteredCoach). I love my job and the way I can make a difference in their lives every day. I feel that the topics will broaden my knowledge of psychology. I am pursuing a Bachelor’s in Psychology. In the psychology field, there are all kinds of data gathered throughout the research. Here are a few examples of how data is involved with psychology; Does one variable impact others? – Can we measure the relationship of the variables? – What is the strength of the relationship? We can use statistics to determine the answers to these questions.
