Abstract

Plastic waste is caused by industrial society’s inefficient usage and disposal of plastic materials, endangering economies, habitats, and human health. Clean-up efforts to date have tried to minimize the harmful impacts of plastic waste, but they have been unable to keep up with the increasing amounts of plastic entering the atmosphere.

As a result, a global multidisciplinary approach to reducing plastic contributions to the ecosystem must be prioritized. Mismanaged waste is a primary land-based source of plastic emissions that can be minimized by bettering thelife-cycle of plastics, especially in terms of processing, use, and disposal, using an IntegratedWaste Management System.

Many governments, counties, cities, and councils are taking steps toreduce the usage of plastic shopping bags due to public concern over their environmental effects. While a range of independent retailers around the world has taken measures to minimize theiruse of plastic, there has been little national or regional government intervention on the issue.

Though other countries have favored economic tools like Ireland’s “PlasTax,” a cost-benefitstudy has shown that all policy measures are ineffective. The environmental effects of plasticshopping bags and consumer habits are investigated in this study using a mixed comparativeapproach.

The keywords include: “plastics,” “plastic shopping bags,” “plastic waste,” “plastic disposal,”“biodegradable plastics,” “big data,” and/or “retail industry.”

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Introduction

Plastic demand has steadily improved over the last seven decades. Plastic materials are currentlybeing used in a wide variety of industries thanks to their low cost, flexibility, ductility, and thepotential to quickly be applied to their properties with other components.

Now all places areplastics and things that are used massively in our daily lives. The increasing overuse of plastics isnow a challenge to the atmosphere, including their expected advantages.

Geyer 2017 estimatedthat by 2015, only a small proportion was recycled or incinerated with all plastic pollution, whilealmost 80 percent were discarded in waste or accrued in natural environments.

Today, the packaging industry became the first plastic products industry to consume over 1/3 ofthe plastic demand globally. There is a significant proportion of this packaging intended for thefood supply.

Plastic food wrapping is designed to prevent the degradation of food, to protect theirconsistency and materials, and also to prolong product life. In recent years, some health issues
