1.Cognitive therapists believe that it is important to socialize the client to therapy. What are some examples of this goal in the session? How effective do you believe this technique was? Would you have done anything differently?

I think socialization was used appropriately in the video. Socialization was used to teach Helen the cognitive model of therapy.

Dr. Lundgren informed Helen how the sessions were going to be structured, what kind of exercises that would be used, and the type of homework assignments that was going to be used after each session (Murdock, 2013).

In the first session, there are three goals that are critical which are establishing a working relationship, setting goals, and being able to socialize with Helen (Murdock, 2013).

In the video, there were several examples of socialization used in the therapy session. It appears to me that the relationship between the client and counselor is early.

Dr. Lundgren informs Helen that the sessions will be structured in order to be effective. She also told Helen that the Beck Depression Inventory will be taken weekly to see how she has approved.

The bridging worksheet was also mention to ensure that important topics do not be overlooked in the next session. One thing that I thought was interesting is that Dr. Lundgren guided Helen to be ableto examine her automatic thoughts.

Dr. Lundgren taught Helen to refute her thoughts with functional thoughts. However, by Dr. Lundgren being able to guide Helen though the processshe was able to use the skills of cognitive therapy.

Dr. Lundgren reviewed the homework assignment that were given to Helen, summarized the session, and elicit feedback from Helen. The next session will allow Helen to talk about her feelings and automatic thoughts from the homework assignment that were given.

Due to the relationship between the client and counselor being early, I think this technique was not effective. One reason is that Helen is still not sure of how to process her thoughts.

Secondly, Helen had to use much guidance from the counselor to work through her automatic thoughts. However, from the beginning of the video Helen is not able to explain the cognitive model.

Helen is only able to give little details of what comes to her mind. I think it is too early to explore socialization a lot from Helen. Helen is talking about how she
