Distant Learning and High School

Distant Learning and High School
There has been an increase in the online learning over the past decade in many parts of the world. Online schools have been proposed as an alternative for a student to finish and obtain a high school diploma.
The proponents argue that online learning does not only provide safety and flexibility for the student, but also it is convenient in ensuring learning takes into considerations the learning needs of the students (Marsh, Carr-Chellman, & Sockman, 2009).
On the other hand, the cyber schools can fully engage the students on a full time basis while not providing them with the opportunity to interact with the teachers or the classmates either before or after the class in the hallways. As a result, one of the main challenges that are faced by online distance learning is the social isolation that students have.
This is an argumentative essay that looks at the appropriateness of the online distance learning for the high school students.
The paper will therefore describe the growth and development of the online distance learning among the high school students, the advantages that have been brought about by the new technology brought by the academic use of the social media to provide out of the class that students are increasingly using, and the disadvantages of the social media used today.
The social fabric of the society has experienced numerous changes in the past decade with the establishment of the social networking websites and mobile technologies.
Online learning has provided alternatives for high school students to finish the high school diploma because of the flexibility and convenience they provide when the students work from home.
Some of the major arguments for the introduction and use of the online distance learning among student include: flexible learning modules, use of the current technology, safety of the children and availability of quality materials.
One of the major advantages that attract students and students to distance learning is flexibility. Although some of the online courses might require that a student attend some live meetings with the instructors in real time, a large part of the study can be completed according tothe schedule of the student.
This, therefore, means that online learning for high school student therefore indicates that students can complete their courses while undertaking other responsibilities (Beishuizen, Wilhelm, & Schimmel, 2004).Use of technology is the other attraction of the online learning.
The advancement of technology has made it possible for students to have some level of interaction while learning remotely. As a result, the use of the social networking technology has become one of the viable options for high school classrooms. This is because it enables the teachers to design their lesson
