The group’s thoughts and suggestions were not valued by upper management, as they requested to attend off-site trainings and increased promotional material to showcase their services to generate business, both requests were denied. In her best efforts to keep some activity going,Carol leader of the group assigned activities such as designing flow sheets and policy writing. This work gave the members of the group a sense of importance in their work. Carol has left the department to attend to family issues she has been replaced by Ron, a young executive with minimal work experience. Ron’s contribution to the group has caused members of the group to become less enthusiastic about their jobs. In particular, Siri states that she is livid and wanting to leave the job. Kerry stated it’s the worst job she has ever worked and is looking to leave soon.

To address morale in this work setting, it would be important to think of morale in terms of the individual, the group, and the individuals as members of the group (Child, 1941)  .Motivation energizes and gives direction to behavior it underscores the tendency to persist (Rožman, Treven, & Čančer, 2017). “Motivation is an important aspect by leading function in influence on others to work toward companies’ goals” (Rožman et al, 2017, p15).Motivating factors differ for each employee some employees are motivated by compensation and challenging work assignments, while others benefits and potential for growth or flexibility. The Internal Support Group at Acme, Inc. felt the CEO didn’t value their contribution to the agency and commonly made the statement of “If the CEO really believed in what we were doing, he would have appointed a more senior, experienced supervisor.” Also according to Ron, the CEO did not want to increase the marketing of the group to generate business as the brochures and posters around the building were enough. Having a devalued group of individuals can cause disengagement, de motivation and dissonance (O’Brien et al, 2004). Ron has implemented weekly statistical reports of staff activities and active work.Peter called the work he was given meaningless and want to reach out to the CEO, so the group could generate more business. Berlis not motivated to do anything he feels that nothing will change and he wants to continue working so that he can retire.
