Good morning Dr. Bethune and class,I am excited because I am two classes away from fulfilling my degree in Organizational leadership. I came back to school after 20 years to finish what I started, and I am close to this goal. I can tell you all this was the best decision I have made to do this as a professional and parent.

I currently work for Microsoft and have been with them for 9 years. I also have been in the sales for over 25 years in leadership roles. When the pandemic hit, I made the decision to come back and see this through to my master’s degree.

Doing this will help me move to higher level roles within my organization but also as a parent of 3 young kids I want them to truly understand the importance of education. Coming back, I was only required to take EXP105 Personal Dimensions of Education.

The class was focused on Communication skills, problem solving, and it helped to shape the foundation forthe classes that would follow. I found this class looking back to be extremely essential to me personal because it helped create a foundation for someone that had been out of school for a while and made helped with confidence.

What I have found out in the past year and a half is education evolves and what you thought you knew probably evolved. I have learned skills in these classes that have helped my work develop and has made me a better leader.

Utilize principles of critical thinking in problem-solving: Working as a territory manager for business sales and support the organization comes across issues daily with orders, customer concerns and general needs it is essential to act swiftly to support the relationship.

There are also many internal components to critical thinking and problem-solving dealing with internal bureaucracy and how to effectively navigate these relationships to support getting to the end result of a happy customer and delivering success for the organization.

The class that really helped me MGMT 330 Management for organizations because helped support the critical thinking and problem that needs to be applied to every situation a leader is brought into.

Communicate through investigative research and writing: A class that really helped me with this was business communications BUS 340. Dr. Henry challenged to be better communicators and worked with us on how we applied our research to the papers we wrote.

I was surprised because I have always felt I communicate well but after the first two assignments the application of her feedback helped me to develop in this area.

A great deal of the work I do is to review data to understand root cause and provide updates to senior leadership on what our next steps will be. There is a great deal of research and reports that need to be concise to ensure understanding.
