1.Describe the series of connections that would be made, equipment and protocol changes, if you connected your laptop to a wireless hotspot and opened your email program and sent an email to someone. Think of all the layers and the round trip the information will likely make.

First open and turn on the laptop. Next open the Wi-Fi application. Turn on the wireless hotspot. The laptop should have a wireless adapter and drivers installed. If not, it will have to beinstalled prior to using the wireless network. Next open the wireless adapter application and search for the wireless hotspot. Once it has been found, select it and enter the credentials provided on the hotspot.
This is the encryption key that scrambles the network traffic to and from the hotspot. Once a connection has been made, a window will pop up asking what type of network this is. Selecting home, public or private will select the security settings for the computer.
Now the laptop is connected to the wireless hotspot, open the email application and create the email. This application layer (layer 7) uses SMTP protocol to tell the server how to handle the data in a header. Next the presentation layer (layer 6) converts the text to ASCII format and specifies the formatting of any images. This is placed in the header that is appended onto the header of layer 7.
The session layer (layer 5) adds a header to handle the sessions. This is the starting, handling and ending of the connections between the nodes or routers the messagewill travel through. There are three headers at this point. The transport layer (Layer 4) uses TCP to break down the data into segments that will be reassembled by the receiving system. Each segment is sent to the network layer.
The source and destination ports are also specified in this layers header. In the network layer (layer 3), the header contains the source and destination IP addresses. The segments become packets in this layer. The path the data will take is defined in this layer’s header.
The packets are moved to the data link layer (layer 2) the packets become frames that are created for the specific network the message is being sent to. The frame adds a header and a footer to the message. The physical addresses of the two nodes the data is moving
