The unsuccesful struggling company that I have chosen to discuss within this project is, Motorola. Motorola is an interesting choice to me since they were basically the inventor ofcell phones and if you think back 20 years ago they were one of America’s greatest compa-nies.
They had lots of innovation, huge wealth and the potential to spawn new businesses acorss the globe. In the last few years, Motorola has seen great losses.

The unsuccesful struggling company that I have chosen to discuss within this project is, Motorola. Motorola is an interesting choice to me since they were basically the inventor ofcell phones and if you think back 20 years ago they were one of America’s greatest compa-nies.
They had lots of innovation, huge wealth and the potential to spawn new businesses acorss the globe. In the last few years, Motorola has seen great losses. The losses since Google taking over, “have totaled more than $1 billion, even as the company has cut some 17,000 workers.” (Fishman, B. T. (n.d.).
Their fall from the top is due to numerous reasons, from the poor choices the company had made, to the management corporate culture it started,Motorola was seemingly unknowingly setting themselves up to fail.
The Motorola management practices started their downfall as it is said they “jetti-soned a powerful corporate culture that had been inculcated over decades. When healthy in-ternal competition degenerated into damaging infighting.” (Fishman, B. T. (n.d)
In the early years of Motorola, management thought it was a good idea to pit departments within the or-ganization against each other by offering bonuses for the best or top performance. I think this was one of their first mistakes that interfered with letting them optimally function. 
The lead-ers of Motorola became arrogant and overconfident which in turn, lead to a number of very bad decisions. They hadn’t planned properly, meaning they didn’t switch to digital soon enough and also they did not pursue smart phone development in the early to mid-2000s.
Theorganization as a whole became known as the “warring tribes”, with leaders screaming at each other in the halls. The different departments instead of working together to make a good thing, operated totally independently, in totally different directions.
The controlling aspect of the organization didn’t grow, “In the past, unhappy stockholders would just sell their stock. Today, they moan and scream and force stupid actions.
Motorola now has to go through gyra-tions which will make it easier for its competitors. Right now, no one wants to buy this divi-sion so it will be spun off to the stockholders.” (Anderson, H. (2008)
