Instructions In everyday life, we are regularly exposed to various claims about human psychology and human behavior. While some of these claims may be scientifically valid, many of them are not. Choose a psychological claim about which you are skeptical. If you are having trouble thinking of one, think about common areas of pseudoscience that you may have heard about (e.g., astrology, ESP, hypnosis) to help you generate ideas. In your paper, develop a research question that you have about the claim. Discuss how the scientific method could be used to test your research question as compared to one of the other methods mentioned in the module (method of tenacity, method of authority, a priori method). Psychological claim: Polygraph Test is an Accurate Means of Detecting Lies.

Psychological claim: Polygraph Test is an Accurate Means of Detecting Lies. Research question: Is the polygraph test an accurate way of detecting lies? The objective of this research is to evaluate the use of scientific methods to verify the effectiveness of the use of polygraphs to detect lies as compared to the other methods. Critically, the polygraph test, known as the lie detector manipulates the individual’s physiological response to questions inquired by testing experts to determine whether they are saying the truth or lies. From the results recorded by the test machine, the machine can plot the physiological activities of the person, like the skin conductance, blood pressure as well as respiration on a continuous chart (Honts, & Reavy, 2015). Nevertheless, there is much difference among individuals across the levels of physiological activity. For instance, an honest examinee may mistakenly prove to be deceptive when they sweat a lot during the test.
