The Montessori Method by Dr. Maria Montessori changed the way many view education.Instead of a teacher who serves to instruct, affirm and correct a student, the Montessori Method calls for the child to be the leader of their education (Certini, 2012). The method allows children to learn from their environment, supported by those around them, including peers, and the environment itself. The environment in the Montessori Method is important. The environment should be managed by an educator trained in the Montessori Method and encourage learning with its setup. The environment should have a number of activities and materials for the student to engage with. The goal here is for the student to independently engage with the material and be supported by the educator only as needed.Students must be free to engage where they choose to.The classroom should also include students of varying ages to promote learning amongst peers.

MONTESSORI METHOD2 Maria Montessori came up with an approach for school aged children called the Montessori Method. Montessori worked closely with children who had special needs. She was able to focus her approach on helping these children become successful, (Montessori & Gutek,2013). The Montessori method is an approach that focuses on children’s learning. It supports a child’s social skills, cognitive understanding, and independence. It helps each child learn at their own pace but stay on track with their education. Montessori believed that children want to learn new things and receive an education so they should be inspired to do so. Montessori’s method is based on different aspects of a child’s life. She believes that a child should be allowed to make their own choices. By allowing children to make their own choices we are preparing them to become independent. Child take in all the information around them. They may not use that knowledge at that exact tie but at some pint it will show. There are certain times in a child’s life when they are ready to learn new things and times when they are.

Activity Description An activity that works for the primary curriculum either inside the classroom or outside of the classroom (age 3-6) for the growth or development of a child would be including practical life activities. Some of these activities in the classroom may include activities in the kitchen area: spreading food, dish washing, and pouring water. Other activities in the classroom include flower arranging, washing hands, cleaning windows, and self care (nose-blowing, hair brushing, etc.). Ideas for activities at home include any of the above, helping with laundry, getting dressed/undressed, helping with meal preps, etc.Theoretical Concept The concept demonstrated by the activities above corresponds with Montessori’s method. According to Chitwood et al. (2020) practical life activities are essential for the development of a child because they help with development of order, concentration.
