Procedure

Each of the participants was asked to answer demographic questions and questions on
how they believed music affected them, then they were asked to listen to two songs. The first
song was Beethoven and the second was Metallica, upon listening to the songs the participants
were asked to answer the same questions they answered before the survey. This is to study if the
music affected their emotions. The use of the Likert scale gave each cell a value, this allowed
data to be obtained and added the values associated with the participants.
Measures
The measure used for this study is a quantitative method of a Likert scale. In this study
the survey had closed questions, which consisted of different questions to measure emotions,
causes of different emotions work, family, school, life, stress, etc.

restriction to the respondents to choose an answer and will be easier to score. The advantage of
the Likert scale is that it is fairly easy to construct, administer and score but the disadvantages of
the Likert scale are the reliability of the answer that the respondents give.
Demographics
A demographic questionnaire will entail age, gender, race, fitness activity, profession,
education, the field of work, etc. This questionnaire is not to discriminate against anyone, but to
observe if a different demographic appeal to one song versus the other.
Data Analysis Plan
The major purpose of this study determined whether music influenced an individual’s
emotions in an effort to compare the results in the studies in the literature reviews
.
In an effort to
understand the scale of measurement represented, as previously stated numbers were assigned to
the Likert type items. The scale data is in an interval measurement in order to composite a score
from a scale of music and emotions to find the mode or medium and how they are correlated.
The use of descriptive statistics for the interval scale items to include the mean for the central
tendency and standard deviations of variability.
