criminality of people whose behavior has led, or could lead, to offending” (Kip, Bouman,Kelders & Van Gemert-Pijnen, 2018). It is important to address psychiatric illnesses/disorders but also to evaluate behavioral and social skills that may be offense related in conjunction with the criminal behaviors. Utilization of evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, occupational therapy and ‘risk-needs-responsibility principles’ (Kip et. al.,2018). However, development of intervention therapies to reduce recidivism rates of offenders has been challenging for forensic mental health researchers and practitioners to implement.According to Kip et. al., “…meta analyzes on interventions targeting batterers, juvenile offenders, and relapse prevention of offenders found low overall effectiveness on clinical measures’ ‘(2018). These findings and numerous other studies within recent literature prove the need for further development and implementation of new interventions to address forensic mental health issues and reduce recidivism rates. It is important that we, as a society, follow common rules to protect basic human rights and moral expectations.

findings and numerous other studies within recent literature prove the need for further development and implementation of new interventions to address forensic mental health issues and reduce recidivism rates. It is important that we, as a society, follow common rules to protect basic human rights and moral expectations. Individuals that break these laws are isolated away from society and stigma of the label of being a ‘criminal’ is placed upon the individual for the remainder of one’s life. This leads to reduced occupational and educational opportunities, social relationships may suffer and these factors may cause the individual to continue in criminal behaviors as they see no other way to survive. “Imprisonment is an important practice in criminal law to punish criminals. This may be necessary for the protection of society from criminals, but successful integration into a community after exiting the prison is the most important factor in preventing recidivism”(Ozkan, Belhan, Yaran & Zarif, 2018). There are various forms of effective treatment within the forensic psychological field, however, research and recent literature over the past few decades has proven that typical treatment services for violent offenders, non-violent offenders.
