APN Scope of practice NP practicing in the state of Kansas with the proper education, competency, and depending on the authority granted through the collaborating physician, has the authority to manage their own patients throughout one’s lifespan by providing disease prevention, health promotion, and maintenance, andindependent diagnosis, and treatment of acute and/or chronic diseases. The NP may also “serve as a consultant, researcher, and patient advocate for individuals, families, groups, and communities to achieve quality, cost-effective patient outcomes and solutions” (Nurse Practice Act Statutes &Administrative Regulations, (2020). Educational requirements in order to qualify to become an advanced practice nurse practitioner in Kansas, the applicant must have completed a post-bachelor nursing education program that has been approved by the Kansas state board of nursing and considered qualified by the board “and prepares the nurse to function in the advanced role for which application is made.”

Out of state colleges offering the APN program must apply for approval from each state in order to be listed as a college that meets the educational requirements needed for the APRN program and is authorized individually by each state. These colleges are examined on a regular basis to determine if they are maintaining the standards required to license these potential APN students. A list of approved colleges can be found within each state’s rules and regulations. License RequirementsThe Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license is,“based on knowledge and skills acquired in basic nursing education, licensure as a registered nurse and graduation from or completion of a master’s or higher degree in one of the advanced practice registered nurse roles approved by the board of nursing” (Nurse Practice Act Statutes &Administrative Regulations, 2020).To receive licensure, you must first apply in the state you are wanting to practice. The license will then be granted if all educational requirements have been completed. Licensure expires every two years, and a notice of expiration will be sent to the practicing NP at least 60 days prior to expiration.
