PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF NURSING

I selected nursing as my occupation because I desire to assist individuals. To me, I feel that healing is a vocation, and I always like helping the needy. It is an honorable occupation, and people should avoid treating it like a job that is only meant to receive a paycheck. I always aim to provide nonjudgmental protection to the sick without regarding their lifestyle choices, spiritual beliefs, race, disability, or financial status (Dahlin n.d.). All the nurses have a pledge to use their skills and knowledge and personal enhancement by continuous learning. Nurses must provide holistic, self-centered, and safe care to the public. I believe that the core values which guide us during our jobs include kindness, persistence, honesty, lifelong learning, and achievement of objectives. As nurses, we should use our knowledge to take care of the patients by educating them and caring for them when they are sick. The base of my philosophy happens to comes from Virginia Henderson, who was a well-known nursing author and educator.

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF NURSING

My final polished nursing philosophy based on my newly acquired knowledge will be To provide holistic best evidence-based nursing care to my patients, and their families emphasizing their needs, values, rituals, beliefs, and desires based on their culture & traditions; to integrate health promotion, and disease prevention in my nursing care plan by stressing the use of the best evidence available, and health resources; to help them improve their quality of life, enhance the clients capacity for self-care through education; be their advocate and help them achieve their health care goals.” Summary Reflection Evidenced-based practice is the cornerstone of my nursing philosophy. EBP is focused on the science and art of nursing (McEwen & Wills, 2014, p. 256). Nursing is widely considered an art and a science.

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF NURSING

Keeping care in nursing involves the application of art and science through theoretical concepts, scientific research, conscious commitment to the art of caring as an identity of nursing, and purposeful efforts to include caring behaviors during each nurse-patient interaction (Jasmine, 2009). I do not think there have been ideas that challenged my personal values or assumptions or ideas that have caused me personal conflict. In nursing, as in life generally, nurses are presented with all sorts of issues and situations to which they will react. The way we deal with problems that arise will be based on the values that we have and the moral standpoint we take. Many of the problems we face have to do with things like honesty, doing good, having a choice, valuing someone’s worth, and being fair about something (Orford, 2012).
