Advanced practice nursing roles.docx

The demand for doctors and physicians is at an all-time high throughout the United States; luckily, within the scope of practice for advanced practice nurses, the options of certified nurse practitioners (CNP), clinical nurse specialists (CNS), certified nurse anesthetists (CRNA), and certified nurse-midwife’s (CNM) are helping fill this void. Registered nurses that choose to continue their education and receive their master’s degree are those that make up the roles within advanced practice nursing. Depending on which specialty is chosen, the advanced nurse can take over or assist in many different things for and/or with the provider, including writing prescriptions, assisting in procedures, managing patients care, ordering labs or other diagnostic tests, and even rounding on patients and developing their plan of care. Within this paper, I will further discuss each advanced nursing specialty, including the education needed to reach these degrees, the workplace environment, and the duties associated with each degree.

Within this paper, I will further discuss each advanced nursing specialty, including the education needed to reach these degrees, the workplace environment, and the duties associated with each degree. Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP)A Nurse Practitioner is educated “to diagnose and treat conditions based on evidence-informed guidelines that include nursing principles that focus on treating the whole person rather than only the condition or disease” (Schober et al., 2020). The specific scope of practice for CNPs continues to grow and change within each state, but as a whole, nurse practitioners use their resources as well as clinical and educational experiences to collaborate with other healthcare professionals in order to diagnose and treat patients. Nurse practitioners can practice in a wide variety of settings.

Generally, anywhere there is a physician or doctoral presence a nurse practitioner is more than likely to work in collaboration or under these licensed professionals. According to the article APRNS in the U.S, the advanced nurse practitioner works in “one of six described patient populations. CNPs are responsible and accountable for healthpromotion, disease prevention, health education and counseling as well as the diagnosis andmanagement of acute and chronic diseases. They provide initial, ongoing and comprehensivecare to patients in family practice, pediatrics, internal medicine, geriatrics, and women’shealth” (2019). Educational requirements for an NP also vary on a state-to-state basis.
