This thesis article examines the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Committee’s work regarding the nursing future and the study on the planning and enhancement of the nursing career in the 21st century by the Institute of Medicine (IOM). Committee Initiative that led to the IOM reportThe Robert Wood Johnson Foundation initiated a two-year project to review and transform the nursing profession (RWJF) and the IOM in 2008. In 2010, to create a study that would suggest an action-oriented blueprint for nursing through the publishing of the Future of Nursing: Leading Reform by the IOM on advancing health. Therefore the report was written to form a map for the growth of the nursing field of medicine.

The information reflected the ongoing nursing changes, which were graciously accepted by the American Nursing Association (ANA). ANA was pleased to see that the continuing work to advance the nursing profession has represented many of the IOM Report’s elements and recommendations on the Future of nursing. Over time, ANA and the ANA constituent organizations of state of nurses have participated in a wide variety of programs that support the IOM’s evidence-based recommendations. This being led by a collaboration between the Campaign and the National Academy of Medicine (Kottke et al., 2016), the campaign hopes to lead the field of nursing toward forwarding the Robert Wood Foundation’s path for the betterment of America.
