For my final track project, I have chosen, the Environmental Influences on Personality: Attachment theory and research. I would use a qualitative design for this study because I’m looking for solid data. My independent variable would be a direct examination of avoidant defense. I’d use the differences of securely attached study participants as the dependent variable. I would recruit participants who maintain distance from others and view themselves as strong and perfect. I would obtain informed consent from each participant that choose to participate in the study. The participants would also have filled out a questionnaire that asked questions pertaining to attachment issues, cognition, and behaviors. The design I feel is appropriate, even though it may have been good to include the necessary the AttachmentQ-Sort for assessing children’s attachment orientations; and the Adult Attachment Interview.

For my final project, I am choosing the environmental influences on personality specifically childhood experiences and their effect on an individual’s personality. Since I am comparing childhood experiences that are caused by their environment to the effect on their personality, I will want to use the correlation research method. I would use a questionnaire in order to obtain the data I would need. This method would allow me to have a larger sample base, have a better picture of the relationship, and multiple variables allowing for better research opportunities down the road.

The cons to this method would be, that I would not have a personal relationship with those part of the study and this could cause a lack of trust. Second, developing a questionnaire that was both reliable and valid could be an issue. Lastly, I would only get a glance at what those in the group went through. Ethically, I would run into an issue of confidentiality and making sure any of the questionnaires were kept private and those taking them were offered privacy. Anyone who participates would be able to withdraw from the research if wanted and if they left the record would be destroyed.
