PSY 223 PSY223 Milestone 2-Research Question & Proposed Test- Snhu

The sample size of my data is n=34, divided into two groups (e.g. Group A and Group B) of 17 participants. It is considered a sample because it is a subdivision of a population. The problem with the sample size is that it is relatively small, especially separated into the two groups, making a total of 17 per group. The sample indicated in two smaller groups is independent, where the observations of the first group have no bearing on the observations of the second group. The problem with a small sample is that it overestimates the effect size and yields low reproducibility results. Some ethical issues may arise including inefficiency and wastefulness that stem if the result becomes an unreliable research source. Furthermore, a small sample size undermines the internal and external validity of a study. To test the results of the two groups, the research question is as followed: Was Group A’s Confidence levels more reliable and assuring than Group B’s Confidence levels?

A follow-up question post results may also include: what are the proposed determinants that enhanced the confidence levels between the two groups? To test the hypothesis, a two-sample t-test would be best for the given scenario. This statistical procedure aims to determine whether the means of two independent groups differ by calculating the range of values that generally includes the difference between the population means. This test aims to calculate a confidence interval by inducing a hypothesis of the difference between the two population means when standard deviations are unknown. It is based on the T-distribution, and for small samples, it tends to work better if the data is drawn from distributions that are close to or completely normal. Moreover, to achieve a two-sample t-test, the two populations or groups must be independent. This test works well in cases when the assumption of normality is violated, but only if the underlying distribution isn’t extremely skewed.
