The definition of a Sampling distribution is “The distribution of any sample statistic from all possible samples of a particular size”(Bennett et al., 2018, p. 270) In other words a sample drawn from a larger number of samplings but in specific population size. An example can be the average amount it takes for a freshman in high school to complete the mile run. The sample size would be20, so I would add up the data as each individual finishes the mile run, 15, 18, 22, 36, 27, 17, 22, 34, 45, 32, 30, 26, 18, 20, 27, 16,37, 28, 27, 40 the unit of measure in minutes. Now I take all of these numbers and add them up and it gives me 537. In order to find the mean or average of this data set, I would divide it by 20which is my sample population. This gives me the average time it takes a freshman to run the mile in 26.85 minutes. Potentially repeating this step 26 more times to get the mean.

Average can be misused and misinterpreted in many different ways. My example is that average can be misused when calculating is driving, aka the speed, you are driving. Now it always messed with my head when I first started learning average, mean, mode, etc. “If I am driving 60 mph, how long does it take me to get to the city?” Your speedometer gives you a general idea of how fast you are going this is the misinterpretation part. Your average speed does not show your speed at a specific point of your travels. There is the unspoken rule of driving that 5 over the speed limit is acceptable. But this is misleading because not every cop will let you off the hook.“Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2020, killing 11,258, or an average of over 30 people per day. The total number of fatal motor-vehicle crashes attributable to speed was 10,136. A crash is considered speeding-related if the driver was charged with a speeding-related offense or if racing, driving too fast for conditions, or exceeding the posted speed limit was.
