After an offender has been released from prison or probation, their after care is very important. Each after care plan is slightly different for a non-violent offender, violent offender, and a trauma victim. For many offenders, it is not an easy task to return to society and be successful at it.It’s important for the offender to know where they can turn to for help in the society once out in society again.Having a strong aftercare plan only helps keep recidivism rates down and allows the offender to be back out in society and helping.Knowing there sources, connections to get involved in the aftercare programs will allow the offender to be most successful.Non-Violent Offenders:Non-violent crimes usually exclude any force or injury to a person and usually the most damage that is done is economic or a loss to the victim (Izzi, 2018). Many non-violent offenders are drug addicts or alcoholic’s and may or may not have had rehabilitation while incarcerated but still need aftercare to not make the same mistakes again. According to Aukerman and McGarry (2004), self-esteem is a tremendous obstacle for many once they are released from prison. In order to overcome this issue it’s important for the offender to become a regular volunteer and give back to the community.

According to Aukerman and McGarry (2004), self-esteem is a tremendous obstacle for many once they are released from prison. In order to overcome this issue it’s important for the offender to become a regular volunteer and give back to the community. One way to do this is through becoming a mentor for a younger person and helping them lead a good life (Aukerman & McGarry, 2004). It’s important for the offender to locate a self-help group that can provide support and provide positive reinforcement (Aukerman & McGarry, 2004).
