A testable research question that will be used is; does medication help a person with diabetes manage their glucose levels. The hypothesis is; does the medication make a person feel better or does it make them feel worse. Most people who tend to be on medication have severe side effects, and the medication sometimes does not agree with their bodies. Testing the research question would help psychologists provide direct services to the patient via the promotion of health behaviors.Testing the research question could also provide consultation from the psychologist to the medical team on how to incorporate psychological principles into patient care to enhance clinical outcomes.AbstractsThe Association between Health Beliefs and Medication Adherence Among Patients withType 2 Diabetes.

AbstractsThe Association between Health Beliefs and Medication Adherence Among Patients withType 2 Diabetes.BackgroundType 2 diabetes is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease and microvascular complications. Approximately 20.5% of adults between the ages of 20–79 are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in Saudi Arabia. Nonadherence to type 2 diabetes medications is an established contributor to the higher prevalence in other countries. No published studies have used a theoretical framework to explain or predict medication-taking behavior in Saudi Arabian type 2 diabetes(T2D) patients.

ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to investigate type 2 diabetes medication adherence using the atheoretical framework, the Health Belief Model (HBM). The specific objectives were to 1) assess self-report of medication-taking in a Saudi T2D convenience sample; 2) investigate self-reportedHBM constructs for T2D, its complications, and medication-taking in this sample, and 3) test the ability of self-reported health beliefs to predict specific medication-taking behaviors among the sample.
