For my final project, the topic that I plan to focus on is the topic of divorce and the effect that may or may not have emotionally and socially on a child’s development. Being a product of a broken home, due to my parents divorcing when I was 12, I was scarcely affected. My little brother who was 8 at the time, however, handled the divorce of my parents very differently. While I maintained my social interaction and grades, my brother began to act out tremendously. He was constantly in trouble, became withdrawn, and his grades plummeted. Divorce, which is defined as the dissolution of a marriage, affects children in different ways.

Some children experience little to no effects at all, while other children struggle to deal with or accept the fact that their parents are separated and no longer in the same household. Topic selection. The topic selected for the final project relates to addiction, and addicts in particular. I intend to research the presence or absence of parents or parental figures and the association or correlation that this may have on the development of drug addiction. This relates to my field and is a workable research topic because of my past history, the great amount of research that there is on the topic, as well as connections that I havemade with other addicts. This will allow me the correct number of participants to give greater validation to the research. My own personal addiction has allowed me to have subjects that are also in recovery share their stories of family dynamics during adolescence. Also, there are many defined personality traits and outside factors that relate to the development of drug addiction. This is a definitive life event, or shaping of personality
