The Psychological Assessment Report I chose to discuss pertains to Sally, a sixteen-year-old female who resides with her grandmother. Sally was a product of an uncomplicated birth and reportedly met all of her developmental milestones. However, Sally has exhibited poor school performance as well as anger issues and was prescribed stimulant medication for an Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder diagnosis. Some factors that may have led to the issues Sally is having include her parents separating, and eventually divorcing when she was 2 years old, causing her to have to move in with her maternal grandparents. Academic difficulties began to arise when Sally was in the 3rd grade, and have continued until now. The assessment that will be administered will focus on determining both her levels of cognitive development and academic achievement, along with her statuses of executive functioning and social-emotional functioning.

The instruments used to conduct Sally’s assessment were the Bender-Gestalt-2, WechslerIntelligence Scale for Children, Roberts Apperception Test for Children, Integrated Visual / AuditoryContinuous Performance Test, Behavioral Assessment System for Children, Rorschach Inkblot Test,Exner Comprehensive System, Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory for Adolescents, Wechsler
Individual Achievement Test, Rey Complex Figure Test, Behavior Rating Inventory of executive functioning, and the Sentence Completion. The report suggested that Sally’s intellectual functioning and verbal reasoning/concept formation fell within the average range of her same-age peers. Her working memory and ability to rapidly process visual material without making errors were also found to be in the average range. However, it was determined that her performance on this task was significantly better when the items she was scanning were more structured than unstructured, indicating that Sally may have considerable difficulty structuring her own work without assistance.

In relation to attention, the assessment found that Sally’s overall ability to make accurate responses, stay focused, and sustain her

attention fell in the average range with her score being above 72 percent of her age-mates, however, her ability to accurately perceive the world around her seemed to be impaired by her negative mindset along with her tendency to ignore important information, therefore, limiting her awareness. Academically, Sallytested in the high average range for reading; the average range for math, and due to the fluctuation in her oral language abilities, an accurate score could not be determined. As it relates to Sally’s socioemotional state, the report suggests that not only is Sally depressed, but has been depressed for some time. The report also suggests that she experiences anxiety and tends to be more worried than others her age, and seems to be antisocial. Her interpersonal functioning also seems to be impaired due to her defensive avoidance of emotionality and connection.
