Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurobehavioral disorders found among children and adolescents and affects the child’s ability to pay attention, control behavior, and achieve successful academic performance [ CITATIONSub11 \l 1033 ]. Due to the nature of this disorder, symptoms are often so severe it interferes with the child’s normal functioning and development [ CITATION Sub11 \l 1033 ].prevalence ADHD can occur alone or as a co-morbidity to other neurological or genetic disorders. Globally, ADHD diagnoses have increased among Americans (Getahun, et al., 2013). Worldwide estimates of close to 5.1 million people are afflicted with ADHD with reports of symptoms into adulthood from 30 to 50% (National Institute of Mental Health, 2020). Improved treatment outcomes for children diagnosed with ADHD occur when early intervention efforts are successful (Loe & Feldman, 2007). Assessment of ResourcesEducators have limited access to resources and with increased classroom sizes, they are incapable of catering to the specific needs of ADHD children. There is no cure for ADHD. Symptoms are decreased with the use of medication and behavioral therapy.

A successful treatment plan involves the use of medication, therapy, and educational interventions catered to the specific needs of the child. Children with ADHD encounter more obstacles than the average student which can make it significantly harder for them to do well in school. Research has found that early intervention and treatment services for many childhood diseases and disorders can improve the child’s development [ CITATION Cen20 \l 1033 ]. Educational institutions can offer special education services or accommodations to decrease the effects of ADHD on the student’s ability to learn. Impact of ProblemEducators lacks the knowledge and access to affordable training needed to identify the early onset of ADHD.

The student-to-teacher ratio is often too large to accommodate the needs of ADHD students. State laws mandate the pupil/teacher ratio however, the cost to maintain smaller classroom sizes is often too high. Research has found that smaller classroom sizes yield better student performance, yet many schools continue to have classroom overcrowding (Krueger,1999). Hart, et al (2010) noted that ADHD children were found to be on-task during small-group instruction. This would suggest that smaller classroom sizes allow ADHD students to receive the attention they need to be successful academically. There is also a disparity in school funding. Within the state of Illinois, school districts are funded by property taxes. This equates to more funding allocated to areas with higher property taxes and little to no funding in property-poor areas (Hancock, 2019).
