Although you provide great rationale to support why you are engaging in this research, remember that research “questions” are not actually questions but statements of intended study. For example, “This study will explore the psychosocial factors that affect African American (AA) males when it comes to acknowledging and receiving treatment for mental illnesses.”Your conclusion would have benefited from providing a more synthesized integration of the literature and how it answers or does not answer the question. Rather than simply stating that more research is needed, I would have liked to see you pull the total meaning of all the sources back to your research question in such a way that it was attempting to answer it. For example, how do accessibility, intelligence, cultural assumptions, AND poverty impact the utilization of MH resources?3-1 Discussion: Relevant TheoryWhen doing research on my topic, African American (AA) males, and factors that weigh in on their views and utilization of mental health treatment, there are two theories that outline the possible impacting views, influences, and substantial evidence to support the way that mental health is in the eye of AA men.

Beginning with belief bias, this provides an outlook upon the cultural stance within the household of this community, which does not partake in the view of mental illness being a real illness, and seeking treatment for it is acceptable (Changing Works, 2019).

For example, looking at how one parenting, following the old saying “it takes a village”, sharing the culturally bound rules of acceptance. In addition, it molds a belief system that turns into an unbeatable misconception of aid to those within the culture. Using another example, the view of ‘whooping/spanking’ a child in a culture like this, compared to those who are of a different culture, choosing to allow the child to express themselves through tantrums. Furthermore, belief bias could be explained to believe something to be so true within one’s belief system, that it cannot be challenged and is not able to be rejected with solid evidence(Changing Works, 2019). The second theory that is influential to my topic is the classical conditioning of AA males. They are growing up in communities that base targeted beliefs on the negative outlook of mental illness; though it has evolved over time. Looking at it as one can look at the changes in Jim Crow Laws; it has gotten better, but it is not where it needs to be. For example, if one wanted to partake in the field of policing or federal positions within the government, it could be looked at as a negative aspect of one’s character.
