However, Freud believed that biological forces influenced personality development whileHorney focused more on the social aspects. Karen Horney also viewed that Freud’s idea of psychoanalysis “focused more on men’s development than on a woman’s” (Schultz & Schultz, 2013, p.139). She stated that the relationship between parent and child is the key factor in personality. Focusing on that aspect, she developed a theory about childhood need for safety. She felt that the safety need, which is “a higher level need for security and freedom from fear” (Schultz & Schultz, 2013, p. 142).
