For my final, I chose to go with environmental influences on personality with a topic of childhood experiences. My hypothetical research would be focused on young adults who have experienced childhood trauma and their personality type. After reading through chapter 2, the best way for me to go about doing the study would be using the LOTS data. L-Data would be able to provide any history of criminal records, their interaction with kids in school, and if their grades were affected by the incidence that occurred. O-Data would come from those close to the subjects at hand. This could be their spouse, best friend, or even parents. I would have to gather this information from outsiders because the subject may not be in touch with their own emotional intelligence. Since they lack this insight, they would be unable to describe their emotional intelligence accurately (Pervin, 2019). S-Data would have to be used since the subjects would be the ones giving information on their own traumatic experiences.

S-Data would have to be used since the subjects would be the ones giving information on their own traumatic experiences. This would be an important part of the research. After gathering all the information, I think the best way for me to go would be by using the correlational studies method. This is the most common study for a reason. The correlational studies approach concerns reliability. The tests must be reliable in order to detect important features of personality that overwise maybe have been overlooked. Describe the childhood need for safety as outlined by Karen Horney. What parental behaviors are necessary for a child’s security? Using examples of poor parental behaviors, discuss how these affect people’s lives.

(Be sure to include the influence on personality). Karen Horney, an early feminist, agreed with Freud about how childhood helps shape a person’s personality. However, Freud believed that biological forces influenced personality development whileHorney focused more on the social aspects. Karen Horney also viewed that Freud’s idea of psychoanalysis “focused more on men’s development than on a woman’s” (Schultz & Schultz, 2013, p.139). She stated that the relationship between parent and child is the key factor in personality. Focusing on that aspect, she developed a theory about childhood need for safety. She felt that the safety need, which is “a higher level need for security and freedom from fear” (Schultz & Schultz, 2013, p. 142).
