The world we live in is filled with people of all shapes, sizes, colors, and walks of life. Despite society being culturally diverse, bias and discrimination are undoubtedly real struggles that many of us face. Whether it be based on race, ethnicity, age, socioeconomic status, religion, sexual orientation, physical appearance, etc. The importance of cultural sensitivity in the world of psychology is exceptionally great because cultural diversity is a complex thing. As children, and as we grow up, we tend to be taught to be culturally aware, be accepting of others, and the idea that nobody is better than anybody else. However, the world we live in proves that this is not always the case on a regular basis. For me, cultural diversity is more than race, religion, social status, and language. When I think of cultural diversity, I also think of tattooed people, LGBTQ people, felons, people who live with mental illness, the deaf and the blind, etc. I think of groups of people who are “not like everyone else”. We live in a world where diverse groups of people make up the population of a diverse group of its own. By that, I mean the tattooed population is made up of people from all social statuses, races, genders, sexes, sexual orientations, etc.

By that, I mean the tattooed population is made up of people from all social statuses, races, genders, sexes, sexual orientations, etc. The same goes for the mental illness population, the felon population, the LGBTQ population, and numerous other diverse groups that become more and more prevalent in society as time goes by. Gonzalez-Mena & Pulido-Tobiassen (2020) stated, “As our nation grows increasingly diverse, there has never been a better opportunity for us to learn to live respectfully together and benefit from one another’s wisdom and experiences.” They discuss the importance of addressing diversity, developing cultural sensitivity, getting to know families, and learning to appreciate. 1-3 Short Paper: Interventions in Different Environments2Cultural Sensitivity and InterventionWe were asked to discuss the cultural sensitivity and intervention strategies for our week’s short paper using the article Teaching Diversity: A Place to Begin.

Then, select a specific culture, and evaluate the multicultural approach when utilizing treatments and strategies with children and adolescents of that specific population. Finally, we were then asked to explain the impact of cultural beliefs on multicultural counseling, providing specific examples from our selected culture of how cultural beliefs influence treatment interventions. The article tells us that when addressing diversity, it is important to remember that“diversity is a complex concept, and there is not one single set of right answers for any one person or family” (Gonzalez-Mena & Pulido-Tobiassen, 2021). The article highlights the importance of ensuring that cultural sensitivity is always being available, informative, and receptive to the families. It is important that we aren’t assuming things and are open and willing to work with the families when conflicts arise.
